I am determined to liberate
My life
From the burning attachments
Of my present and past life.
– Sri Chinmoy, Seventy-Seven Thousand Service-Trees, part 26, Agni Press, 2002
The Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run is a global relay seeking to inspire the creation of a more peaceful world. As a symbol of peace and harmony, runners carry a flaming torch, passing it from hand to hand. The motto of the Peace Run is "Peace begins with me" - stressing the importance of how each individual can make a positive contribution to creating a better world.
The Peace Run was founded by Sri Chinmoy in 1987, and is now a bi-annual event with relay runs taking part across the world. Since its inception, the Peace Run has travelled to over 140 different countries, and countless towns, cities and local communities. In particular, the Peace Run has also visited many schools, giving young children the opportunity to participate and share in the hope of creating a better future.
The Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run does not seek to raise money or highlight any political cause, but simply strives to create goodwill and a feeling of oneness amongst different people. In the past two decades, the Peace Run, which has also gone by the name World Harmony Run, has touched the lives of countless people, who have been inspired by the simple message that the Peace Run offers.
"Lasting peace must begin within the depths of the individual, and from there spread in ever-widening circles as a dynamic force for world change"
Sri Chinmoy 1
"Peace we achieve
When we do not expect anything
From the world,
But only give, give, and give
Unconditionally
What we have and what we are."Sri Chinmoy 2
“Peace does not mean the absence of war, peace means the presence of harmony, love, satisfaction and oneness. Peace means a flood of love in the world family.”
Sri Chinmoy 3
"Today's chaotic world cannot forever remain chaotic. World harmony, world peace: these are not mere dictionary words. These are the realities, divine realities and supreme realities. For all of us who are aspiring to become good citizens of the world, our World Harmony Run is a supremely important inspiration to us all."
Sri Chinmoy 4
“I salute the runners of the Peace Run who are carrying a torch to the destination of peace through the streets of the world.”
Pope John Paul II
“I am happy to support your Peace Run for justice, peace and reconciliation. The world must know that God wants us to live amicably as brothers and sisters, members of one family, the human family, God's family.”
Archbishop Desmond Tutu
“You are contributing to building the bridges between the peoples and nations. Your contributions and co-operation in achieving what the Charter of the United Nations asks us to do is most needed and welcome in our turbulent times of the world's state of peace.”
Vladimir Petrovsky, Director-General of the UN, Geneva
